Magazine picks the DLWP as Best Seafront Attraction

BEXHILL can now boast Britain's 'Best Seafront Cultural Attraction', at least so far as Coast magazine is concerned following its annual Coast Awards for 2011.

For the title went to the 1935 De La Warr Pavilion, having impressed judges with “both the clean-lined beauty of its Grade I listed Modernist architecture and the breadth of its cultural activities”.

The DLWP bested Cornish contenders, the Tate St Ives and the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth, to receive the accolade from TV presenter Michaela Strachan at the Country Living Fair in London.

Its win was decided by a panel of experts plus nominations from the public, and Best Seafront Cultural Attraction was one of 10 categories in the competition, run in association with Joules.

West Sussex took two other titles - best coastal pub/cafe (East Beach Cafe, Littlehampton) and unsung coastal hero (Dan Thompson, Revolutionary Arts Group, Worthing). Full details will be published in the June issue of Coast, on sale from April 25.
