Worthing mayor Sean McDonald joined the party at The New Grange, Homefield Road, Worthing, yesterday.

Ivy was born in London on February 6, 1916, and was married to Walter Manley. They moved to Crawley in the 1950s and had one son.

Robert, who grew up in the new town, said his mum moved to Brighton when Walter died and lived there for 30 years.

“She has always been very sociable,” he added.

“She has been in Worthing for nearly four years, having had to go into a care home. She has been at The New Grange for about five months.”

Robert and his wife, Linda, live in Storrington and have three daughters, who were all at the party.

Paul Cottrell, activities co-ordinator at the home, said: “Ivy is as deaf as a post but she’s a sweetheart. She really is an amazing lady.”
