Magistrates’ Court round-up

August 4:

Yan Barnes, (aged 31), of Cambridge Gardens, was found guilty of assault by beating following a not guilty trial. The offence took place at Queens Road, Hastings, on December 27 2014. He was sentenced to 21 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. Magistrates also made a community order requiring him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

Samuel Skinner (aged 22), of Eisenhower Drive, pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault, a charge of assault by beating and a charge of causing criminal damage to a wall valued at £10. The offences took place at Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings, on April 11. He was sentenced to prison for 20 weeks, suspended for two years. Magistrates also made a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement and 120 hours of unpaid work.

Demi Worboys (aged 21) of Saxon Street, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to taking a Ford Kia car without the consent of the owner, of having no driving licence or insurance and driving while more than twice over the drink drive limit. She gave an alcohol breath reading of 92 microgrammes. Magistrates made a community order with a requirement of 200 hours of unpaid work and banned her from driving for three years.

Christopher Kempshall (aged 62), of Ewhurst Lane, Northiam, was fined £260 for driving his Mercedes vehicle without insurance. He was also given six penalty points. The offence took place at Northiam on November 8 2014.

August 5:

Anthony Hamilton (aged 75), of Southcourt Avenue, Bexhill, was found guilty, following a not guilty trial, of failing to comply with a planning order to remove domestic waste and building materials from his property, including pallets, compost and manure bags and plastic boxes. The order was issued in April 2013 and gave him one month to comply. Rother Council took further action in January 2015.

He was given a one year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £1,366 in costs .

August 7:

Robert Johnson (aged 53), of Hastings Road, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to harassing a woman by sending two letters to the manager at her place of work in August and September 2014. He was fined £150 and magistrates issued a restraining order.
