Magistrates court round-up

The following are court results from Hastings Magistrates’ Court for June 16 and 17.

June 16:

Ryan Cowie (aged 26) of Valleyside Road, Hastings, was convicted, following a not guilty trial, of assault by beating. He was also convicted of stealing a mobile phone. He pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order imposed by the court in March 2014. All the offences took place in Bexhill on October 12 2014. The court imposed a community order requiring 200 hours of unpaid work and made a requirement to attend a domestic abuse programme. The court made a restraining order and ordered him to pay £50 compensation and £310 in Crown Prosecution costs.

Peter Glazier (aged 27) of Hollington Old Lane, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and two further charges of assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer. The offences took place at St Leonards on December 12 2014. The court ordered him to pay £50 compensation and imposed a community order with requirements to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, attend a domestic abuse programme and have treatment for alcohol dependency.

Steven Ruff (aged 38), of Clyde Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. The offence took place in St Leonards on December 28 2014. He was sentenced to a community order with 100 hours unpaid work and a requirement to attend an alcohol treatment programme. The court imposed a restraint order and ordered him to pay £200 compensation to the victim.

Chantelle Williams (aged 36), of The Close, Rye, was convicted, following a not guilty trial, of stealing two purses, a wallet.two iphones and a Samsung phone from the Masonic Hall, St Leonards, on October 25 2014. She also pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour at the Railway pub, Kings Road, St Leonards, on December 20 2014 and assaulting a police officer on the same day. She pleaded guilty to stealing make-up items from Boots, at Hastings, on March 12 and being in possession of cocaine at Hastings on March 29. Magistrates made a community order with a drugs rehabilitation requirement and imposed a six month curfew between 6pm and 6am, with electronic monitoring.

Joshua Hannaford (aged 25), of Cliff Way, Fairlight, pleaded guilty to three charges of assault by beating and a charge of damaging an Acer tablet. The offences took place at Eastbourne between January 2014 and May 2015. He was sentenced to a total of 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years. The court imposed a two year community order with a domestic abuse programme requirement.

June 17:

Craig Richards (aged 37) of Cloudsley Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to stealing an HDMI cable, worth £4.99, from ESK in Hastings on May 28. He also pleaded guilty to having 17 wraps of heroin in his possession on the same date. He admitted being in breach of a conditional discharge, imposed in April for stealing food worth £9.80 from Marks and Spencers in Hastings. The court made a community order requiring him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. They also made a requirement that he has drug rehabilitation treatment.
