Major blaze near Horsham put out after more than 12 hours of firefighting

Firefighters have finally left the scene of a major blaze near Horsham after tackling it for more than 12 hours.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said crews were called to reports of an agricultural building on fire at a farm off Dragon’s Green Road in Shipley at 6.22pm on Sunday (July 12).

He added: “Two fire engines from Horsham Fire Station were mobilised to the scene along with crews from Worthing and Burgess Hill. The water carrier from Burgess Hill was also sent to the incident.

“Upon arrival, crews found a large barn full of hay on fire and got to work using covering jets and high pressure hose reels to prevent the spread of the fire.”

A crew remained at the scene of the fire throughout the night, with the incident closed at 7.58am this morning, he said.
