MAJOR EAST SUSSEX FIRE

AROUND 60 firefighters tackled a massive blaze at a car dealership in Heathfield on New Year's Day.

A member of the public alerted the fire service after flames were spotted at Goldsmith and Allcorn on Station Road at around 8.30pm on Monday (January 1).

Firefighters from Heathfield, Uckfield, Mayfield, Hailsham and Herstmonceux attended.

A team in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze at close range and six water jets were also used to manage the spread of flames.

The fire was contained by 11.30pm.

Police are treating the blaze as suspicious.
