Major roadworks to take place around Eastergate

DAMAGED roads in Eastergate will be repaired next month.

West Sussex County Council is carrying out the £126,000 of works as part of its Operation Watershed to make good the effects of extreme weather.

First to be improved will be the surface of the Eastergate roundabout which is being repaired overnight on July 5.

A council spokesman said: “The roundabout, which links the A29 Nyton Road with the B2233 Barnham Road, is heavily used by traffic and the surface is failing.” The work will cost £54,000.

Barnham Road will then be closed overnight from July 8-10 for extensive surface repairs on large sections of carriageway.

Straight afterwards, Yapton Road will be closed overnight on July 11 and 12 for the same reason to allow work to take place around Barnham station.

The North End Road mini-roundabout will be re-surfaced overnight on July 19.

The works have been timed to lessen their impact on schools, firms and the railway station.
