Make a noise in Heathfield

THE HEATHFIELD Silver Band, a local charity established in the town for nearly 125 years, is looking for new players.

On Saturday, June 16 some of the band players will be in the Co-op car park by the Farmers’ Market, from 9am till mid-day with the purpose of promoting membership and encouraging anyone who is interested to ‘have a go’ and hopefully join the Band. They will be playing too, from 10am onwards.

Membership spans a wide age range and the Band is losing some young members as they move on to university.  At the same time there are a few older players who regrettably have decided to hang up their instruments. There are several players in their 80’s and the youngest player is eight years old.

Many members join the band who have never played an instrument before and organisers say it’s a great achievement to take up a completely new hobby. There is a lot of help at hand, with a wealth of experience. Practice sessions take place every Tuesday evening.

Instruments and uniform are loaned and there is always the chance to get involved in playing at fêtes and concerts, shows and private events. Heathfield Silver Band is also a marching band so members participate enthusiastically in the Bonfire Carnival season from September to November each year.

Everyone is welcome to go along, or if you can’t make it on June 16, please contact the band secretary on: 01435 862398 or look at the Band’s website:
