Arun Divers club chairman Gary Moore, 67, will be taking the leap himself dressed in shorts and a cooking apron and holding some mystery accessories.

“It’s great that so many people go in every year,” he said. “We generally get about 30 jumpers.”

Asked about his favourite jumper costume he’d seen over the years, Mr Moore said: “We actually had a blow-up model of Concorde one year. Richard Branson was doing an event in Bognor and their blow-up plane got blown out to sea and we recovered it.”

“They did not want it back,” Mr Moore said, so the Concorde gave that year’s event a ‘special touch’.

This year the event is raising money for EnableMe, a Littlehampton-based disability awareness charity, and CancerWise, a cancer support charity in Chichester.

The Arun View Inn will be providing refreshments and hot soup for all the jumpers, as well as hosting a raffle after the leap.

A range of prizes will be available, including a try-dive with the Arun Divers scuba club.

Members of the public wanting to take the leap themselves can download sponsor forms from the Arun Divers website.
