Making life better for 1066 Specials

Store colleague Donna Munnery, who was involved in the selection process, said: "The 1066 Specials really stood out as a local charity that we could benefit through volunteering and fundraising."

The partnership kicked off on Monday, when members of the Specials collected money in-store and invited customers to support planned fundraising activities.

Brian Wyatt, who manned the Specials' information stand in Sainsbury's on Monday, said: "Thanks very much to Sainsbury's. We do appreciate it very much. And to the customers as well."

Sainsbury's colleagues will support the 1066 Specials by giving their time to the charity through volunteer work. Funds raised will go towards equipment for new players.

Lynah Levy, Sainsbury's HR Manager, said: "We are really pleased and excited to support the Specials team. The hard work starts now, but I can definitely see our store building a strong relationship with the 1066 Specials and making a difference to their work."

Harold Lawrence, chair of the Specials' board of trustees, said: "What a wonderful surprise for the 1066 Specials to be chosen by Bexhill Sainsbury's as their Charity of the Year. We sincerely thank store manager Marco Sarro and his staff for the invaluable boost to our club's funds and profile that their decision will inevitably provide.

"At the 1066 Specials football is fun, and Sainsbury's generous gesture has certainly widened the smiles on the faces of our footballers and all our volunteers."
