SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the Trinity Churches): The Breakfast Service last Sunday was really enjoyable. Music was led by the church’s singing group, who came together two years ago, before Christmas, when friends from Sussex Harmony were unable to attend because of prior engagements. The singing group also led this year’s Carol Service and have been singing from time to time during the past year or so, to introduce new songs and help the congregation to sing them. They can also enrich good congregational singing, with descants and harmonies and provide a strong lead for the tune. Last week’s service focused on the parable of the Good Samaritan. We were encouraged to think about who our own neighbours are and although it was unspoken, it was difficult for people to remain unmindful of happenings in the USA, where the new President’s own attitude to this topic is providing food for thought and later for prayer. This Sunday, the focus is on the rich fool, who locked all his wealth in a large, newly built barn and settled down to eat drink and be merry, only to die promptly on the night that he finished the work. ‘Then,’ asks the Bible, ‘who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ The service will be Holy Communion, (informal), and begins at 9.30am. All are welcome.

TENANTS AND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Malling Tenants and Residents Association were told that their plan to purchase more grit bins for Malling will now cost more as prices have gone up. Moreover, it now costs £95 to fill them. Nevertheless, the treasurer will seek a grant from the town council to pay for as many as are needed. Meanwhile, where grit bins are in place, residents are asked to report those that are empty. We can’t expect to get away without heavy frost, ice and even snow this winter.
