SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: says a huge well done to the Reception and Nursery classes for their Nativity production last week. It was the first time the Early Years classes had put on a show together and the results were fabulous! The children sang really well, remembered their actions on stage and seemed to enjoy the experience. Thank you to the staff team who made it all possible.

This week is the turn of our Years 1,2 and 3, who are performing ‘Little Angel Who Got Her Wings’.

Next week is their last week (the last day for the children is Wednesday 21st). Before they finish there are several other events: On Monday they have their Church Service for Years 1,2 and 3 and then the Friends will be putting on a ‘treat’ for the children in the afternoon. On Tuesday the classes in Year 4,5 and 6 will be performing their Christmas Carol concert. On Wednesday there is the famous “South Malling Talent Show,” followed by Christmas Lunch. So - a busy and fun filled week ahead! The Head Teacher, Mrs Jo O’Donoghue, says: “School starts again on Tuesday 3rd January. In the meantime we would like to wish everybody a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!”

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the Trinity Churches): The “Let there be More Light” Exposition was launched last Sunday. This is a project which has involved children at South Malling School, the Pells School and South Malling Sunday School. It is based on the Feeding of the Five Thousand, a story from the bible in which Jesus feeds 5000 people from a young boy’s small gift of bread and fish. A young woman who went to Rwanda last year, from one of the other Trinity Churches, had used the story to encourage Rwandan children to see that, however little one has, God can make it more than sufficient if you use it in the right spirit. This caught the imagination of Bobby Morley from South Malling Church, who had acquired by chance some 5000 little ponies a little while ago. Putting the miracle and the mystery together, he persuaded the children to get involved in making seven ‘sculptures’ — loaves and fish. They were enthusiastic and inventive and they now there’s an impressive installation which, against all common sense, actually looks wonderful in this small church at the far end of Church Lane. The church plans to be open during the Christmas season not only for services but also to exhibit the art. This coming Saturday, 17th, there is a children’s craft event from 10am to 12 noon and the church will stay open until 1.30 pm for visitors. It will also be open on Sunday when there is a service of Holy Communion at 9.30 and the church will stay open until 12 am. all are welcome. There is a Crib Service for children on Christmas Eve at 3.30p.m. and Midnight Communion at 11pm. On Christmas Day there will be a Christmas Family Sservice - short and good fun, with carols of course!

TENANTS AND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Members at the recent AGM were informed that the community centre will be refurbished next year. Architects are currently drafting plans. The cost will be born by the council. Merry Christmas.
