SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: On Sunday South Malling Church held their family service at the school. With the support of Miss O'Neill, the Choir provided some additional music for the service and sang a very beautiful Remembrance Day song that urged the audience to remember peace and love in the world. This Friday is Children in Need Day and our efficient school council with the support of Mrs Burch have prepared lots of activities and stalls to raise money for this worthwhile cause. Our children will be coming to school dressed in something spotty to help raise funds and make this day a truly memorable one. The school was delighted to host four students from Priory school this week as they carried out their '˜random acts of kindness'. Well done to the football teams who have made a great start in the League games this season.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the three Trinity churches) holds four or so of its Family Services in the School Hall each year and last week they were delighted to be visited by the excellent school choir, especially when they opened the Service by singing the Beatles’ Let it be, so imaginatively appropriate for Remembrance Sunday. With the school choir (who sang all their songs beautifully) came lots of their enthusiastic supporters who joined in the various activities with all the confidence and spirit that we in South Malling have come to recognise as a feature of our school’s wonderful children. This coming Sunday, the last Sunday before Advent which begins the new church year, is set aside by the Church of England to celebrate Christ the King. This will be a Communion Service led by the Vicar, Revd Steve Daughtery, with Revd Jules Middleton giving the sermon. It begins at 9.30am and all are welcome.

TENANTS AND RESIDENTS: Last Monday, at the fourth annual general meeting of the association, Cllr John Lamb was elected as Chair for the coming year, with Mat Moulding as Deputy Chair, Brian French as treasurer and Sue Winkett as secretary. Summing up the achievements of this year, Brian French, the past Chair, reported that the association had seen the stabilisation and new lease of life for the food bank, a very successful programme of children’s activities last Summer, and successful fundraising to support the food bank. On the downside, the parking situation in Malling has become worse. Members spoke strongly about their fear that children are in danger. Cars parked at the side of the road obscure the traffic. The development of the police headquarters is identified as a key problem and despite a number of conversations with Police HQ, it was felt that there is no sense that the police are bothered about the concerns of local people. A handout has been prepared by the association asking drivers of badly parked cars to observe appropriate courtesies. More about this meeting next week.
