SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Year 6 had a brilliant time at Bowles and impressed staff with their determination and resilience when they tackled the challenges of rock climbing, skiing, abseiling and lots more. The whole school had their behaviour treat on Monday. This time they had earned themselves a mini-Olympics session on the field. Next Tuesday is their Sports Day (weather permitting) and the school is looking forward to a fun and energetic competition between the different teams. On Tuesday they will be welcoming their new reception parents to the school. This year they have 60 children joining them as they have been asked to take an additional class because the school was so oversubscribed with children from the local area.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Last Saturday, the church was welcomed into Anne Blake Dyke’s beautiful garden for a social event which more or less managed to dodge the rain, partly thanks to a sizeable marquee. It was a really enjoyable occasion, shared with Trinity friends from Southover and St John sub Castro. On Sunday, there was a good sized congregation to celebrate Holy Communion. They were pleased to hear that a collection of modest financial contributions for the Garden party refreshments amounted to comfortably more than a hundred pounds, which will be given to the Church’s Mission partners. This Sunday the service will be Morning Praise, with contemporary music. It will begin at 9.30am. All are welcome.
