Malling

SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Thank you to Mrs Hunt, Mrs Swan and helpful parents for working on the garden and pond areas of the school last Saturday. They have cleared lots of the weeds and prepared the beds ready for planting by the gardening club in the coming weeks. The school looks forward to harvesting the produce. Well done to the Year 5 Jade Jaguars class who had their residential trip to Southease YHA last week. They were polite, well behaved, enthusiastic and embraced the challenge of being away from home with real positivity. Thanks to Mr Beattie and the staff team for giving up their time to take them and for organising such great activities. On Friday May 20, the school will be holding their termly Open Afternoon so parents and friends can come and see all the work and learning that has been going on this term. They will also be holding a science fair in the hall, as their curriculum topic (the Natural World) has had a science focus.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: One of the three Trinity churches in Lewes, will be celebrating the Festival of Pentecost with a communion service in church this coming Sunday. Pentecost is the time when all Christians remember the coming of the Holy Spirit, one of the three manifestations of God. The Holy Spirit represents the power of God in growing the church. The Christian Church is still the fastest growing in the world today, though it has faltered in the West and the current Archbishop of Canterbury is calling of the Church of England to focus again on growth in this country. Pentecost is one of those symbolic milestones in their renewed journey. The service will be led by Reverend Dick Field, supported by Reader and old friend of the church, Ken Bridger. It begins at 9.30am and all are welcome. Children are provided for in the popular Children’s Club.
