Man, 70, suffers serious injuries as digger overturns

A 70-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a digger overturned and trapped his arm.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene close to Brighton Racecourse this afternoon (July 25).

Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust said it dispatched an air ambulance to the scene from its base in Redhill at 12.13pm

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “At 12.17pm on Wednesday (July 25), police were called to a yard in Race Hill, Brighton, following a report of a man trapped under machinery.

“It appears the man – believed to be local and in his 70s – had been operating a mini tractor when it overturned and trapped his arm.

“Firefighters and paramedics also attended, and the man was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 12:12pm Roedean and Hove firefighters attended a stables on Warren Road, Brighton following reports of a person trapped under machinery.

“Crews were assisted Sussex Police and SECAMB. Crews made the scene safe and left the scene at 1pm.”
