Man admits to making club bomb hoax call

A DRUNK man waiting in a police station to be reunited with his lost wallet called 999 to make a bomb hoax to the nightclub next door, a court heard.

Wayne Thomas, 31, of Tyers Road, London, told the call handler he had placed detonators in One Club, in Chatsworth Road, Worthing, after a night out on July 13 last year.

He was sitting yards away from the club, in the Chatsworth Road police station, while he waited for officers to return his wallet, which they found after he reported it stolen.

He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to making threats to damage property and communicating false information.

Outlining the case, Chris Bull, prosecuting, said: “At 2.45am, police were called by the suspect who said his wallet had been stolen from Bar One.

“He was drunk, aggressive, was difficult to understand and his story kept changing. He first said it had £30 in it, then it was £300.”

Police found the wallet and met with Thomas, walking to Chatsworth Road.

As officers were called to another job, he became aggressive and made theft allegations, so he was asked to wait in the station until they returned.

While he was waiting, he made a number of calls to the police, threatening both the bomb hoax and to damage the police station.

Mr Bull said: “He then called 999, saying he had put detonators in the club and the place was going to go up.

“He ended the call, saying he was going to smash the station and break all the windows.”
