Man appears in court after '˜hammer attack' on officer

A man has appeared in court after a police officer was '˜attacked with a hammer'.

Jamshid Piruz, 33, unemployed, of no fixed abode, appeared before Brighton magistrates on Saturday (January 9).

A court spokesman said he was charged with burglary, attempted burglary and three counts of thereatening a person in a public place after the incident in Stagelands, Langley Green, at about 10.30am on Thursday (January 7).

A police spokesman said an officer was taken to hospital after being attacked with a hammer.

Piruz was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on February 8.
