Man arrested after an alleged racial incident in Uckfield

A 57-year-old Uckfield man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment after an alleged incident in a town park.

Police say a man was reported to have racially abused, insulted and intimidated a woman in Victoria Pleasure Grounds between 6pm and 6.30pm on Sunday (May 29).

The man was reported to have abused and insulted a 46-year old woman, who is not known to him, as she was walking to her car and again as she was driving away.

Police were called and a 57-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment. After being interviewed he was released on police bail until June 13..

PC Dave Brown said: “This was a most distressing experience for the woman and we want to hear from anyone else who saw what happened or saw this man shouting in the park.

“Any witness or anyone with information is asked to email [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 1369 of 29/05. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-org.uk).”
