Man charged after armed police called to '˜disturbance' in Whitehawk

A man has been remanded in custody and charged in connection with an incident in Brighton earlier this week, police have said.

Armed police attended an address in Whitehawk Close shortly after 4am on Monday (June 19), following a report of a disturbance.

Sussex Police said a man inside the property initially refused to come out, but eventually engaged with officers after about five hours of negotiations. He was then arrested.

William Miller, 36, unemployed, of Whitehawk Close, Brighton, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, being concerned in the production of cannabis, grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment, police said. He has been remanded in custody to appear before magistrates on July 17.

A 20-year-old man from Brighton, arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and being concerned in the production of cannabis, has been released under investigation.
