Man charged after passenger hurt in crash

A MAN has been charged after allegedly attempting to make off after an accident in which a rear seat passenger was thrown from a car.

The passenger suffered serious head injuries. Police said no other vehicle was involved in the incident in Cooden Sea Road, Little Common, last Friday evening.

The driver of a Mazda 323 lost control of the vehicle near the junction with Grazebrook Close shortly before 7pm, leaving the road to the near side and colliding with a lamp post and two garden walls.

A police spokesman said: "The near-side rear passenger was thrown out of the rear side window sustaining serious head injuries.

"The driver tried to drive away from the scene but was unable to owing to extensive damage to the vehicle.

"The vehicle was abandoned close to the junction with Kewhurst Avenue and the occupants made off from the scene."

Three police cars and two ambulances attended the scene.

Cooden Sea Road was sealed off.

The police spokesman added: "Two men were arrested near to the Cooden Beach Golf Club."
