Mr Pearson's family released a statement in which they condemned the "senseless act":

"Syden was tragically taken before his time by a senseless act of violence.

"He was a mischievous character and liked by so many people. Although he wasn't perfect, he was charming, fun-loving and kind. All who knew him will miss his cheeky smile and impish grin. He was a keen football player and a passionate Manchester United supporter. We are grateful for all the messages of condolence that we have received.

"He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family including his much-loved sisters. This senseless act, which is now so prevalent around the country, has left a young man without his life and a family without a much-loved member."
