Man charged with Rye area burglaries

Robbie Zowy Cook, 25, from The Rising, Eastbourne, was arrested on Friday December 10 on suspicion of burglary at a number of homes in Rother.

He had earlier been arrested, on November 24, in connection with a road rage incident in Hastings.

Shortly before 11am on that day a driver was trying to park his van in Queens Road to deliver to a shop, when he became aware of a black Landrover Freelander behind him, and that the driver of it was shouting at him. He got out of his van, but was confronted by the driver, who then head butted him.

The Freelander driver then got back into his car, allegedly laughing, and drove off. Details of his car’s registration number had been taken, and the matter was reported to police.

Twenty minutes later, police officers in Victoria Avenue, Ore, saw the vehicle and spoke to the driver who was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery and his vehicle was seized.

Cook was later interviewed and charged with the assault on the delivery driver.

He was also charged with three counts of burglary.

The first at Chick Hill, Pett, took place between November 9 and 16 where two televisions worth £1,400 and various electrical items including games consoles and games, worth a further £700 were taken.

Jewellery worth £2,400 was taken from a house at Netherfield Road, Battle, on November 24 and the third burglary charge related to a break in at Halley Road, Broad Oak, on November 27, where three televisions worth £782 were stolen.

Cook was also charged with driving a vehicle without insurance and driving a vehicle without a licence.

He was denied bail and remanded into police custody to appear before Hastings Magistrates Court on Monday this week.

On appearing Cook was further remanded in custody, and will be returning to court for the next hearing on Monday December 20 for a trial date to be fixed.
