Man dies after car crashes into church

Shortly after noon on Friday a blue Suzuki Wagon smashed into St Saviour's Church in Framfield Road, Uckfield.

The driver John Petrie, 83, of Linden Chase, Uckfield, died

No one else was hurt.

The building suffered structural damage and work was required to make it safe.

A coffee morning due to be held on Saturday was moved to Uckfield Methodist Church.

Parishoners had Sunday service at Holy Cross Church.

The church is still closed today (Monday).

Police are appealing for witnesses to this collision to call 0845 6070999.

This is the second time in just two months a car has crashed into a building in Framfield Road .
