Man dies after car hits tree at Winchelsea.

A man in his 60’s died after his car struck a tree on the A259 close to Winchelsea New Hall in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the A259 Rectory Lane at Winchelsea at 2.38am on Tuesday (23 September) after a car was seen crashed in bushes with its headlights on.

The car was found to have struck a tree close to the village hall. Paramedics attended the driver, believed to be a man in his 60s, but he was declared dead at the scene.

The A259 was closed in both directions for the incident to be investigated.

Diversions have been set up through the village, but due to a narrow archway are unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles.
