Man dies after collapsing in Bognor high street

A man has died after collapsing outside a shop in Bognor Regis on Wednesday morning.

Members of the public are said to have attempted to resuscitate the man after he collapsed outside Thomas Cook, close to the arcades on London Road, just before 11am.

Paramedics took over but the man, who is said to be in his 60s, died at the scene after going into cardiac arrest.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “Shortly before 11am on Wednesday, August 12, we were called to the arcade end of London Road in Bognor, outside Thomas Cook.

“We had reports that a man had collapsed and we were informed that CPR had begun, help we are very grateful for.

“We attended the scene with two ambulance crews and one paramedic car.

“The crews continued resuscitation attempts but sadly our efforts proved unsuccessful.

“The man, aged approximately in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

He said the man had gone into cardiac arrest and added that police had been informed.

An eyewitness said staff at the O2 phone shop put signs around the stricken man to shield him from sight as paramedics tried in vain to revive him.
