Man dies after Hankham collision

A MAN died after he was thrown from a car on a road at Hankham, near Pevensey.

The 28-year-old from Eastbourne was a passenger in the silver Vauxhall Astra with a group of young people when there was a collision at 3am on Hankham Road, near the junction with Foords Lane, at 3am on January 3.

Police believe the car carried on down the road after the collision before it stopped.

The man was taken by ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital but he was declared dead by medical staff at 8.45am that day. A 17-year-old girl, also from Eastbourne, was taken to the hospital with a broken leg.

Police arrested an 18-year-old girl from Eastbourne who was not injured, on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent after the incident. She has been given police bail until April 15.

A 21-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested later on Monday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without consent. He was bailed until April 20.
