Man dies in Bosham house fire

A MAN died after a house fire at Bosham. A neighbour raised the alarm when a window was heard to blow out from the house next door in Merryweather Road on Monday.

A neighbour raised the alarm when a window was heard to blow out from the house next door in Merryweather Road on Monday.

Smoke and flames were seen pouring from the rear of the ground-floor lounge. Fire crews from Bosham and Chichester were called out at 7.14am and were on the scene within six minutes.

They rescued a man, aged 53, from a first-floor bedroom and, along with paramedics, tried to resuscitate him. He was taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, but died shortly afterwards.

An investigation is under way but the fire is believed to have started accidentally in the lounge. The house had no smoke alarm.
