Man drowns in sea at Peacehaven

A MAN drowned in the sea when he fell into the water at Peacehaven on Saturday morning (April 2).

The 44-year-old victim from Middlesex was walking with another man along the promenade at the bottom of cliffs near Steyning Avenue at 10.45am.

Both men ended up in the water.

A group of men working nearby tried to rescue them and one went into the sea.

He and the dead man’s friend were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, but were both discharged after treatment.

The victim was airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital, however was declared dead just after 12 noon.

There are no suspicious circumstances and the death has now been referred to the coroner’s officer.
