A 50-year-old man has been fined for assaulting a female council officer.
Roger Moreton, of Beachlands, attacked the Wealden District Council officer when she called at his Pevensey Bay home to discuss non-payment of council tax on March 13.
She was shaken, but not seriously injured.
Mr Moreton denied a charge of assault, but was found guilty after a trial at Hastings Magistrates Court.
He was fined £180 and ordered to pay £640 in court costs and victim surcharge for assaulting a revenue enforcement agent.
Councillor Graham Wells, Cabinet member with responsibility for Recovery and Enforcement of Local Taxation, said, “We will not tolerate any cases of assault, intimidation or abuse to Council staff going about the course of their duties.
“Our officers are protecting the public’s interest and ensuring that we all pay council tax so that others do not pay more than they have to.
“If a council officer is assaulted in the course of their duties, we will look to the Courts to protect the public interest as well as that of the individual concerned.”
