Man fined for fly-tipping in Rother

A KENT man has been fined £100 and ordered to pay more than £400 in costs after pleading guilty to paying two people to dump his rubbish in Rother.

Paul Barrett, 46, paid £40 to have two large builders’ bags of rubble and other rubbish disposed of by passing men in a van.

This was subsequently fly-tipped in a lay-by in Merriments Lane, Hurst Green.

Barrett, of Stream Lane, Hawkhurst, pleaded guilty at a hearing at Hastings Magistrates Court this week.

Barrett must also pay a £15 victim surcharge.

The prosecution was brought through Rother District Council’s Sense of Place team, who investigate environmental crimes.

The council said the case highlights the importance of employing licensed waste carriers and asking for a waste transfer note for any rubbish taken.
