Man given first aid after Middleton-on-sea tractor fire

A tractor fire in Middleton-on-sea on Monday afternoon was caused by an accidental ignition, the fire service has confirmed.

Two fire engines and two off-road 4x4 fire vehicles were mobilised to the incident off Ancton Lane just before 4pm

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “One male received first aid at the scene. The fire was of accidental ignition.”

In a post on social media, Bognor Fire Station, which was assisted by crews from Littlehampton, said 'quick actions' helped stop the spread of the fire into the field and hedgerow.

Whilst the incident was ongoing, the fire service said the tractor was 'well alight' and 'affecting the surrounding grassland'. Residents living nearby were urged to keep their windows and doors closed.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using two hose reels.
