The district was battered by strong winds and stormy weather as Storm Doris swept through the country yesterday (Thursday February 23).
Emergency services were called to the A281 Brighton Road at about 1.25pm after a tree fell by the side of the road.
The fire service said a man tried to move the tree and injured himself in the process.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and the incident was left with the police.
Stormy weather caused chaos across Sussex as several roads and even town centre shops were forced to close.
A fallen tree shut the Balcombe Road in Crawley, between Worth Road and Maidenbower Drive in Pound Hill, after it was ripped from the ground by strong winds.
The A23 near Gatwick Airport was also closed for several hours as the storm damaged the road.
The Cancer Research shop in Burgess Hill was taped off for safety reasons as titles were blown off the roof, smashing outside the entrance to the building.
