Man injured in Slindon blaze

A man was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a Slindon house.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was suffering from smoke inhalation as a result of the blaze on Tuesday evening.

It badly affected the detached property in London Road from its starting point in the kitchen. A fifth of that room was damaged by fire and the flames spread to the first floor bathroom which suffered ten per cent fire damage.

The remainder of the house was severely damaged by heat and smoke. It is believed the blaze began accidentally.

About 20 firefighters tackled the flames for about 90 minutes from 8.45pm. Crews were sent to the scene from Arundel, Littlehampton, East Preston and Chichester fire stations. A Red Cross support unit also attended.
