Man jailed for biting another man's lip off during fight

A man from Billingshurst was jailed for four and a half years after he admitted biting off part of another man's lip in a fight in Brighton, police report.

Sussex Police say Patrick Doran, 25, unemployed, of West Chiltington Lane, Billingshurst, was involved in a fight between two groups of people near the junction of New Steine and Marine Parade, Brighton, around 12.15am on Sunday, August 30.

“During the incident, Doran was seen to be holding his 45-year-old victim’s head with both hands and biting his bottom lip,” said a statement from police.

“The man later required surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital for his injuries.

“Doran appeared at Chichester Crown Court for sentencing on July 8, where he received six years’ imprisonment, reduced to four-and-a-half years for an early guilty plea.”
