Man rushed to hospital after being hit by falling lamppost

A man has been rushed to hospital this morning (Monday, March 21) after being hit by a falling lamppost near Newhaven Town train station.

Emergency services were called to Railway Approach shortly before 9am to reports of an injured male.

The 23-year-old was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton as a priority with a head injury, back pain and concussion.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Officers were called to Newhaven Town Station this morning following reports that a lamppost had fallen and struck a member of public.

“Officers from BTP and Sussex Police attended and a man was taken to hospital.

“Police are currently on scene and will assist health and safety investigators in establishing the circumstances of this incident.”
