PC Jason Scrase said the alleged incident occurred on the 8.40pm Portsmouth to Littlehampton service on March 12.

"When the train left Havant, it appears a male sat opposite a female passenger and began to stare at her," he explained.

"The 26-year-old victim felt uncomfortable and looked out the window to avoid making eye contact with him. It was then she noticed in the reflection of the window that the male was committing indecent acts on himself while watching her.

"The victim got up to leave the train at Barnham and the male got up and followed her. The victim's father met his daughter at the station and she told him what had happened. The father then called out to the suspect and reproached him. However, the suspect turned away and walked out of the station."
