Man sought after telephone kiosk vandalised

BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) officers have released an image of a man they want to identify following ‘pointless’ criminal damage to a telephone kiosk outside Bexhill train station.

Officers want to speak to the man pictured in CCTV images in connection with the incident, which took place in the early hours of Monday, April 9.

Just after midnight, two men walked to the front of the station and began kicking and punching a telephone kiosk before smashing the receiver against the phone, ripping it off.

The men fled when Sussex Police officers arrived shortly after. One of the men, a 24-year-old from St Leonards, was arrested and later issued with a caution for a separate, unconnected offence.

PC Peter Cooke, the investigating officer, said: “This utterly pointless criminal damage was committed, it would seem, for no other reason than it being a laugh.

“We want to speak to the man pictured in connection with this incident. If you recognise him, or have any information that could help us, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact BTP on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B9/LSA of 2 May. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
