Two other men, aged 21 and 30, were also treated for non-serious injuries.

Windows at the Marabou restaurant, in Devonshire Road, were smashed during the fighting.

A Bexhill man and an Eastbourne man were arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Officers attended the scene at around 5.30pm.

Later in the evening, windows at a pizza restaurant in Eastbourne were smashed. Police believe the events are linked and are seeking further information from the public.

An eye-witness said: "I was coming down Devonshire Road when I saw these lads. They were hurling chairs through the window of the restaurant.

"As they ran off I followed them in my car. They ran round the corner towards the De La Warr Pavilion.

"There were about three of them in their twenties, well spaced apart and followed by an older guy - I would say in his thirties.

"They ran into Linden Road. I did a U-turn and went into the pavilion car park."

"It appears that all those involved were known to each other and the violence occurred due to a dispute between certain members of the group."
