Man sustained serious head injury in '˜vicious' seafront attack

A man who was visiting the city on business was seriously injured in an attack on Brighton seafront, police have said.

Appealing for witness, officers said at 1.15am on Saturday (June 10), 50-year old Edinburgh man was walking along Kings Road, between West Street and Middle Street when he was struck in the face by another man.

The victim then fell to the ground, sustaining a serious head injury, and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he is currently in a serious but not life threatening condition.

Police said no weapon was seen and nothing was stolen.

The suspect, who is described as black, in his twenties, about 5ft 10, of large build, wearing dark clothing with a hood up, is believed to have made off up Middle Street.

Detective Constable Shirley White said; “The reason for this vicious attack is not currently clear and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious along that stretch of pavement or nearby in the moments before the attack, or who saw the attack itself.”
