Man threatened police with air gun and samurai sword

A MAN has pleaded guilty to threatening armed police with an air rifle and a samurai sword at his home in Bognor Regis.

Steven Russell appeared at Chichester Crown Court and pleaded guilty to possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear or violence and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Police were called to Russell's home in Aldwick Road on November 7, where on their arrival they were threatened with the air rifle, subsequently they called for armed back up.

An hour-long seige took place before he handed himself to police officers. Defending, Terry Brook told the court Russell (23) had suffered brain injuries as result of lack of oxygen from an asthma attack in 2005.

Judge Claudia Ackner warned he would face a jail term for his actions. He will be sentenced at on March 5.
