Man trapped under car after Newhaven crash

A man became trapped under his car for more than an hour following a crash in Newhaven late last night (Saturday, August 1).

Police, fire and ambulance services attended after the collision happened in Bridge Street at around 10.30pm.

The man was released at around midnight and taken to hospital.

A spokesman from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We got a call from ambulance at 10.33pm last night to a road traffic collision where a person was trapped under a car in Bridge Street, Newhaven.

“We released him using airbags which lifted the car off the person underneath at midnight and ambulance crews took him to hospital.”

The man’s condition is not known, although the spokesman said his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening at the time he was taken to hospital.
