Man tried to hide vodka in trousers

A homeless Polish man from Bognor Regis failed in his attempt to walk out of a supermarket with a bottle of vodka down his trousers.

Lukasz Lewandowski went into Morrisons in Bognor Regis on September 7, at 12.45pm, and attempted to walk out of the shop with the 15 bottle of Absolute Vodka down the front of his trousers.

He was caught by staff and did not contest his actions. He pleaded guilty to shoplifting at Chichester Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The court heard how he had only 1 on him when he was arrested, and that he had been sleeping wherever he could, including Bognor beach, after not being able to pay rent on his flat.

The 27-year-old had been working as a vegetable picker, but had been out of work for several weeks as no work was available through his agency.

He moved to England around a year ago with his wife, but has not seen her for four months after an argument.

His four-year-old child was being looked after in Poland by grandparents.

He was given a one-year unconditional discharge.
