Man violently attacked near Cuckoo Trail

A MAN was violently attacked while walking along the Cuckoo Trail on Christmas Eve.

The 39-year-old was walking along the path at 9pm on December 24 – to reach London Road. A young man and woman stood on the path, and words were exchanged.

The man who was with the young woman began shouting abuse at the victim and he was followed to the area near the Grenadier Pub. The abusive attacker then repeatedly punched the man – despite the woman’s efforts to stop the violence.

Police said the couple were then reported to have walked back along the Cuckoo Trail after the attack. The victim needed treatment for minor injuries at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

The attacker was white, aged 18 to 21, around 6ft tall, with brown hair. He wore dark jogging bottoms and a black coat with a hooded top underneath.

The woman was of a similar age, 5ft 2in to 5ft 3in tall, with black hair and dark clothing.

DC Ian Dearling from Hailsham CID said: “I’m keen to talk to anyone who witnessed the attack, especially the young woman, or who has any information about the couple.”
