Man with 'offensive weapon' tasered in Brighton

A man with a 'metal rod' was tasered by police in the early hours of this morning (August 6).

Sussex Police said: "At 12.20am on Monday (August 6) a man was seen to be threatening people in Black Lion St, Brighton, at the junction with Kings Road, and was in possession of a long metal object.

"As officers approached him he ignored their command to stop and made to run off. He was then tasered in order to ensure his safe arrest and to protect the nearby public.

"The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, and common assault. He was given medical attention and is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

"Police took possession of a long thin metal rod."
