Artists and makers from across East Sussex can have a chance to exhibit and sell their work at the Towner through its yearly platform, East Sussex Open, over the summer - and the deadline for entries is March.

Between 30 and 40 artists are selected in a competitive open application to have their work displayed in the Eastbourne art venue’s impressive ground floor gallery spaces.

Joining the Towner’s Head of Contemporary Programmes, Sanna Moore, on the 2015 judging panel includes guest selectors Jonathan Watkins, Director of Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and award-winning London-based video artist Saskia Olde Wolbers.

The exhibition will be on from July 11 to September 20 with an anticipated 30,000 visitors across the three months. Sussex-based painter and printmaker Angela Smith was a participant in 2014 and recommends that regional artists consider applying.

Smith said, “I was attracted to apply for the East Sussex Open 2014 by the amazing space offered to exhibitors. I had been making multiple ink drawings and wanted to show them together in a space with a vast ceiling height, and the Towner was perfect. I was fortunate to be selected and found the East Sussex Open 2014 to be a well organised and well publicised exhibition. I am primarily a painter and printmaker, unused to installing work up to 4m high, so the helpfulness and professionalism from the technical team was much appreciated.”

Sanna Moore, Head of Contemporary Programmes, said, “I’m sure we will continue to get a wide range of submissions – the quality is always high, and it is always a difficult job to come to a final selection. We are delighted to have Jonathan Watkins and Saskia Olde Wolbers on board this year as guest selectors. Their exposure to contemporary art globally will bring new perspectives to this year’s selection process.”

• East Sussex Open 2015 is open to artists and makers over the age of 18 working in any media who live or work in the East Sussex area including Brighton and Hove. Work entered must have been produced in the last three years. Deadline for entry is Sunday March 1 at 4pm, and the entry fee is £20.
