Marine Art Hit

MERMAIDS, whales, crabs and other sea creatures moved around in their own, fantastic, underwater world, brought to life by children at Littlehampton Museum on Saturday.

More then 50 creative young minds joined in activities at the museum's Children's Art Day, led by artist Kathryn Jones.

The seaside theme reflected the museum's current art exhibition, Rabbits, Rooflines and Rudders.

Kathryn, from Brighton, showed the children how to make delightful 3D, moving pictures, inspired by a 19th century collage in the exhibition.

And the ornate, gilt frames of the paintings were copied in the decorative edges the young artists gave their pictures.

It was Kathryn's third visit to lead sessions at the museum and Rebecca Fardell, who organised the arts day, said: "We've had a very good attendance for a winter Saturday. The children have really enjoyed themselves and made some beautiful pictures."
