Money raised will help refurbish the charity’s main building which suffered extensive damage during last summer’s fire.

Mr Benton, who has a wealth of film and TV credits to his name, including appearances in Waterloo Road, Northern Lights, Murphy’s Law and on Strictly Come Dancing, visited St Michael’s Hospice shortly after the fire last July and says it is an incredible place.

“It really is great,” he said.

“You never know when you might need their services and it’s such a valuable part of our community.”

Mr Benton, who lives locally, says he is ‘honoured’ to support the Phoenix Appeal in his ambassadorial role.

“I think it’s fantastic to have such an amazing service on our doorstep, and in the community, providing excellent care and support to people living with life-limiting illnesses.

“The hospice offers so much and deserves all the support it can get.” Bruni Llovet, head of marketing at St Michael’s says it is ‘absolutely thrilled’ to have Mr Benton as the Phoenix Appeal ambassador.
