Market Street and Rye Town Hall were transformed by set designers as filming on the BBC series Mapp and Lucia continued.

The Buttermarket area outside the Town Hall became a butchers and Union Jack bunting was hung across the street.

The Market Street scenes were the most challenging to film according to the programme’s producer.

Filming started in May and the crew have largely enjoyed perfect weather for the shoot.

Filming has also taken place at Church Square and at Lamb House.

Filming outside the Town Hall is fitting as E F Benson, who wrote Mapp and Lucia, was a former mayor of Rye and would often have sat in the chamber above.

The series is due to be screened by the BBC this winter, with schedule timing still to be confirmed.

These great pictures were captured by Joshua James, of Kings Avenue, Rye and Colonel Anthony Kimber.
