Massive eco-town rally and march

AROUND 2,000 people took part in a march protesting against a proposed eco-town at Ford on Saturday.AROUND 2,000 people took part in a march protesting against a proposed eco-town at Ford on Saturday.

Residents from surrounding villages and towns gathered at Yapton Village Green to give the Government and the developers a clear message '“ they will not tolerate an eco-town in the area.

Organised by Communities Against Ford Eco-Town (Cafe), people waving banners and signs opposing the scheme marched on footpaths across the fields where the houses would be built.

TV presenter Ben Fogle, who joined the march with his father Dr Bruce Fogle, who lives at Ford, said the idea of an eco-town was brilliant but he didn't feel it was the right place.

"I am here to march for our green fields which sadly have no voice. This Government will not make me feel guilty opposing a supposedly green initiative. This is not green, this is whiter than white, this is a con.

"For heaven's sake don't bulldoze over one of the most agriculturally productive sites in West Sussex," he said.
